Marie started work aged 18 in 1942 at a munitions factory in Middlesex. Her work involved testing the engines of Spitfires, checking if the oil leaked. She also made the caps for bombs. She worked here for three years and greatly enjoyed her time there, meeting many friendly people. In 1944 Marie moved to a factory in Hammersmith where she made the parts of radars, however she wasn't told what they were for until she left as it was considered secret as it was a new technological developement for the time. When Marie left in 1946, she was sad to be leaving behind the many friends she had made.
