Our favourtie meal was dripping and toast.Mother got the dripping from Brown's butchers.
I(Doris) worked at the factory which had a bog oven and we'd toast with a big long toasting fork and then we'd throw a potato in to roast for our dinners. it was really hard trying to get the potato back out with the toasting fork.
Mother was a goodd old fashioned cook, she made "lobby" with stewing steak, carrots, potatoes, parsnips and celeryand put into a meat and potato pie and "hash" ,meat and potato with a thick sauce made with gravy browning.
We never had bananas until I was 17 they were lovely. Our sweet ration for the month would be 2oz,we'd have chewing nuts, fish toffee ,liquorice, kalia
We were allowed 2oz of cheese each week
i(Mabel) loved spam sandwiches.
The powdered eggs were ok they made everything hard but you still had to eat them
