Herbert Adams was part of the Cheshire yeomanry TA a cavalry regiment when war broke out. It is a historical fact that it was the last cavalry regiment to go into action with horses. In the army Bert did a lot of jobs including cooking, washing the uniforms and grooming the horses, the most important job was laying communication lines. The Cheshire yeomanry disembarked in Syria, which was defended by the free French. Bert was in syria for five years. He sent letters to his family and sometimes it was a long time until he had a reply but was very happy when it did reply. And was delighted when the war was over.
