One night I heard some German planes flying over me, on the way to Liverpool. They used the river Dee as a guide to get down to the docks. Only tonight they couldn't make it to Liverpool for some reason or another so they all had to change course and go back to base, which meant flying back over Farndon. Unfortunatly for us it meant that they were unable to land while still carrying the bombs, thus meaning they had to drop them around our area. Once I started to feel the vibrations of the falling bombs I picked up my two children and carried them to the cupboard underneath the stairs. I was so worried for their saftey that I told them to keep the saucepan lids on top of there head's! We stayed underneath the stairs for some time and the vibratins from the bombs were so strong that the coal pile wich was keept underneath the stairs fell down. I found the experience very frightening as my husband was away in Huddersfeild working as a reserve.
