I was called up in the original 51st Highland Division in 1940. 154 brigade evacuated at Lehavre, then evacuated Cherburg, present at Alemein, Sicily, later Europe. Ended up at Luneburg Heath where the armistice was signed.
The most impressive effort was the opening barrage at Alemain and the effort to get through the minefield.
In 1942 I was a wireless operator with the 154 Brigade Signals. There was terrific speed going through North Africa to Tunis. I was in a good mob of Fifers. Landed safely in France D+2 at Arremanches. Followed the division up through Belgium, Holland and finally into Germany itself. France and Holland were worst - dykes were flooded.
