I was working in AB Hutchisons Bakery. We made bread for the army stationed in Aberdeen. We had three shifts: 10am to 2pm, 2pm till 10pm, and 10pm till 6am. I got a man's wage for a man's job. That meant I had to carry a bag of cinders to heat the ovens. We had to work hard, but I did enjoy my work. My husband was in the Navy on National Sevice all the time and he was away away from 2 and a half years without getting home.
It was sad that the man who came home was not the man who went in 1944. It was hard work but worth it.
