Having reached to the very old age of 85 years I was recalling the old Flying days at 鈥淐鈥 squadron Boscombe and whilst looking through my Flying log book I came upon some 鈥渢it bits鈥 which I thought you might be interested in. as follows >>
Enclosed PHOTO taken of all the staff just at the end of WW 11. Centre Cdr Torrence Spence.
Later T S became Captain i/c Flying on the Indefatigable.
Log book extracts as follows 鈥
12/3/44. Mosquito 937 Pilot Torrence Spence myself Flight/Observer Flew to Thruxton aerodrome (occupied by a fighter sqdn of Americans) it was the nearest place with a macadam. .
Runway . eventually the unfused 4000lb bomb arrived having been towed behind a Land rover.
And by the time the bomb was in position the whole station had congregated with open mouths, after the necessary tests had been completed we dropped the load at Herne bay and showed the yanks a clean ;pair of heels.
6/9/45, METEOR EE 212 Lt/Cdr Randolf Pearson and myself flew from B D , it was the first time that a passenger had flown in this machine, incidentally the seat was a load of foam
and a leather strap for a seat belt, ( very experimental don鈥檛 you think?)
Unfortunately Randolf was killed getting out of his Walrus not long after..
