During WWII, my grandfather received a letter from his brother. It seems his brother had been forced to work for the Communists during WWII or risk losing his life and the lives of his family members. He used his connections to get to England, and wrote to my grandfather to say he was going back to Lithuania to bring his daughter to England. We don't know if Grandpa ever heard from him again. The details are sketchy. My mother said grandpa had a temper, and wouldn't go into detail because he was so enraged at his brother for joining Communism. (Of course, grandpa was in the safety and security of the United States at the time. How could he relate?) The last name is S^leinis (the ^ next to the S indicates an sh sound). The name could be varied: Sleiniate for an unmarried daughter, Sleiniene for a wife, Slimus was the american version, and varied german or polish versions which I'm not equipped to figure out. It would be interesting to see if anyone knows people by this name.
Ac^iu labai!
