My husband joined the army when war was declared and was being sent overseas. Because of the censorship of all letters we devised a code so that I would know roughly where he was. For example 'darling' meant he was in Egypt, 'hello dear' was the far east, etc., etc. So when his first letter from overseas was 'darling' I knew where he was posted.
My family was evacuated to Ludlow. We were real 'townies' and one day went to pick mushrooms, only we didn't know a cow from a bull, but we soon found out when he charged us. I didn't know we could run so fast!!
