I was in the special services army Torbrook was under seige mazamtu was having trouble and we were sent in to help them,We had to dig a hole in the hillside or the mountain at the bottom it was just sand, we had to build a baricade in the front in case anything was flying about. One day we were having breakfast from our billy cans when we heard the sound of a planes engine when we looked we saw the enemy plane was just above the water with the sun behind it so it was hard to see , when it got above us it began dropping bombs so we all made for the trenches and people began dropping on top of us two of my men got killed, I was their sergant both these men were friends and it hit me hard,Once the plane had gone an dwe got out of the trenches I was not hurt but I went deaf and have suffered ever since, after being taken out of the trenches at night time a barge arrived they put men on at one side and on the other they unloaded stores and we were then taken to the hospital at Mazamatue.
From there I was shipped to hospitals all over the place and eventually was shipped home.
We were sharing the ship with prisoners of war , the ship took us to Nove Scotia were the prisoners were to work on farms and we had to waite for a ship to bring us home.
When I arrived home I had to have treatment for my ears I still suffer the efects. I am now 85 and joined the army at 18 years old.
I must add that I was very proud of my regiment and I have seen places I would never have seen if I had not fought in the war.
