Bertha Amelia was due to get married. Her wedding dress and brides maids dresses were being stored at a shop in the Centre called 'Jonses' or 'Baker, Baker'. This was 1940 (end of November) and the bombs were dropped on the centre of Bristol. The shop and wedding and brides maids dresses were all destroyed - a week before the wedding.
Luckily the wedding did go ahead as Bertha Amelia was able to borrow the dresses from her brother's wedding for the day.
