Lived in an area that suffered badly during the war, with bombs. Remembered the first time she saw the bananna, aged twelve. They had just come into the country and it was only children that were allowed them . It was green and she can remember being confused as she thought they were yellow. Remembers people singing a lot, perghaps trying to forget what was going on. Dugouts in the back gardens and communal shelters in the middle of the street. Remembers getting out of bed and saying "Mum, there's going to be an air raid!" and Mum said "Don't be silly, it's one of ours" but she knew better as it sounded like a heavy plane loaded with bombs rather than light friendly craft. She remembers finding shrapnel in the street and using them to play 'peever' (Scottish for Hop-Scotch. Always went to bed half dressed as was always prepared to be woken by the sirens. School was always interupted and remebers that it graetly disrupted education.
