During the war i was a child.I can still remember life throughout this period so vividly.I remember my mother announcing to the family that the war had started and her scared face as she did so. My father had to go away to fight and I rememer the long, painful goodbye my mother had said. I diddn't acctually understand what was going on and that he might not come back. she spent weeks watching the news to see if they said anything about him and how she sat about the house crying. When everything got serious and when the threat of air raids came many of my school friends were evacuated but my mother said that she couldn't bear to be without us and that we would stay together as a family. our neighbours had an air raid shelter that we used throughout the war. we would sleep down there most nights. A lot of the time when i was at school we had to have lessons down in an air raid shelter and i spent the majority of the time in one.All of my family surrvived including my father however my next door neighbous son, who had gone away to fight, died. this was my saddest memory.
