My parents, Rose & Jim Smith lived in Abbey Wood all their married life, I was born 1935.At the age of six in 1941 I was ill, I spent the war years in hospital at Carshalton,Surrey. My Dad failed the Army,he never knew the reason, his job was as important in it's way as any soldiers,he was an A.R.P Warden. He rarely talked off the War,he used to say he didn't want to remember the things he saw or did,my Mum told me bits, for instance, Dad was talking to a little girl one day, wwhen a bomb exploded quite close. Dad Survived, the child was blown to bits, all that was left was a shoe in a foot.I asked him about it once,Dad cried like a baby,it waas never spoke off again.Mum told me more, she didn't know it all though I don't think.
