I can remember being in a Morrison shelter, we had a Morrison shelter, and we used to sleep in it at night. This was inside the house, the Morrison shelter was a steel framed air-raid shelter.

It went in the back room of the house. We had a terraced house with a dining room, a back room and three bedrooms, inside toilet 鈥 no bathroom 鈥 and it was put in the back downstairs room 鈥 it filled it! There were three of us in my family, I was an only child, and we slept in there. People鈥檚 lives were saved by Morrison shelters.

I鈥檒l always remember lying there, and hearing the bomb drop, first one, then another, and another, getting nearer and nearer, and my father saying: 鈥淭he next one鈥檚 for us鈥. But it never came, did it? I鈥檓 here to tell the tale.
