Soon after the War finished it was decided that street parties would be arranged for the children. My father helped to erect a stage in the centre of the road. Each child was given sixpence if they did a turn. I earned mine by singing…
COMING IN ON A WING AND A PRAYER
One of our planes is missing
Two hours overdue
One of our planes is Missing
With all its gallant crew
The radio sets are humming
We waited for a word
Then a voice came through the humming
And this is what we heard.
Coming in on a Wing and a Prayer
Look below there’s a field over there
With a full crew aboard
And a trust in the Lord.
