Photograph taken at Blandford, Dorset, around 12th June 1941, when William John Edward Brain, marked with blue cross, enlisted in the Heavy Ack Ack Regiment, Royal Artillery.
William was born in Clifton, Bristol in May 1912 and joined up at the beginning of World War Two. He was based in Ireland, Wales and Kent. It鈥檚 not known who the young woman is in the front row - perhaps she was connected with the NAAFI - or perhaps she did their washing!
