Saturday morning: Granade throwing 1st rule if it doesn't go of you have to go get it.
one day someone throw a granade it never went off so the sergeant major who was all
dolled up with all his medals on had to go down in all the mud and retrieve the
granade.
Men could go drink coffee and rest at the NAAFI it was a catering establishment
where they gave them sausages, bacon, corned beef ect.
sometimes they had no clean water, the could never shave because they only got a cup
full of water. they could go to holy places where they wouldn't be interfered with.
Petrol was rationed. people used to sketch images from war.
on the Greek islands, there was only 1 island that was inhabited. soldiers could get to
the islands with summaries. in some parts, soldiers were bombed 3 to 4 times a day.
lots of ships were sunk. taking pictures was illegal but many soldiers took there
cameras anyway.
they went to watch boxing for entertainment.
much time was spent in Beirut. Kibbutz was a Jewish village where they can grow
there own food and be self sufficient. the jews dined with the English end the got on
very well. doctors looked after them well. even ladies worked at Kibbutz, and got free
food and accommodation.
