I am a pupil for Prudhoe Community High School in Northumberland, entering Harry Fraiser's story onto the website, and they fully understand the website terms and contributions of use.
Harry originally singed up for the army at the age of seventeen and a half, and servered tens years as a Sergeant for the Inns Of Court Regiment.
Harry was the lead driver in the leading scout car for Britain. A British tank attacked One day Harry was travelling over the river Seine and his scout car and three men were killed, Harry was the only survivor.
Harry received seven medals whilst serving in the army he received the 1939-1945 star, Italy, France and Germany, Home Defence, Victory medal, Palestine medal and a territorial medal.
On one day Harry was sat at the top of the Normandy High Hills and he was watching the Germans. At six A.M the oath finders flew overhead and started bombing. The British navy lost one hundred and sixty tanks that day. After this attack Harry left the High Hills in his scout car and drove down the road, he could see someone lying on the floor and it was a German pleading for water. Harry did not give him any as he had a hole big enough to put your hand into in his stomach.
A few days after seeing this man Harry was driving over the Centre line for the Welsh army and the soldiers there captured them. Once they had explained who they were they got in trouble with their colonel and then had a giggle with the Welsh about it!
After the war had finished Harry travelled towards a village on the Danish boarders, to get there they had to board a ferry and stop the Germans coming over the boarders. Once over the lines a German came towards him with a Lugar and held Harry at gun point, Harry was just about to pull out his gun and another German jumped on the Germans back and pulled him to the floor! If that German hadn't of been there Harry may not be here today and Harry never got a chance to thank him.
When the war was finished Harry and his friend went to a German jewellery shop and stole some rings and bracelets to get money for food and drinks, as they were all very hungry.
Harry Fraiser is now 84 years old and has many memories that I could go on forever talking about but we just do not have the time.
