My brother in law, Ernie Colley, was in the RAF. He was in the seige of Malta… and had a very bad experience there. He came home, was in hospital for some considerable time and then they were on the boat going over to Japan when the news came through that the bombs had been dropped so they went instead to Kowloon, Hong Kong and were in charge of the Japanese camps there, and they were committing Hari Kari and they had the job of cleaning them up…and that was horrific. When he came back he was in a terrible state as I’m sure a lot of the servicemen were…you know they’d been through horrendous things and we will never ever ever understand how horrific those experiences must have been.
