I worked at Wrights and Dobsons working with lace, but remember having to make blinds for peoples windows, we had to make the blinds with sticky backing, so that when put up to the windows if a blast occurred the windows wouldn’t blow in, I worked from 6am — 6pm for 30 shillings.
Also used to have to do ‘fire watch’ 2 nights a week on a rota system all single people and married couples without children had to do it.
When I had my daughter I had a home birth and had to pay £2 for the midwife to deliver her.
