I remember being in church with my father when the priest announced that war had broken out, I was five years old. We rushed home to my mother who had also heard the news and was worried that my 14 year old brother would have to go off to war...he later did.
Later as the Germans began bombing Manchester, I remember hiding under the stairs at home where it was supposed to be safe.
After the war ended I remember the street parties and my brother coming round a corner which surprised us because we wondered what he was doing at home!
