I worked in munitions. I got called up, I was just 21. I was doing shell filling for the Navy, filling shells with T.N.T. it used to make you very yellow. Very dangerous. I did that for just over 4 years. I was billeted in Stoke-On-Trent, "Cold Niece" was the camoflage name.
The factory was like a town itself, hundreds and hundreds of people worked there. There were explosions, people got killed. People were so friendly. People weren't really afraid to go about.
I liked the home life so I lived with a family, I still keep in touch after over 60 years with the son and daughter, they call me aunty Evelyn!
