My Mum and Aunt were heading for the shelter when other people came rushing towards them in an alarmed and shocked state telling them not to go there. Someone had fallen on the steps and consequently lots of people had been trampled and killed in the rush to get into the shelter quckly. Today there is a plaque commemorating the tragedy at the station.
Also, my Grandad was walking passed a cinema in london. Fire fighters were there, as a bomb had dropped two streets away. The blast had taken the breath out of all the people, they still sat as if they were watching the film, but they were all dead, and when a fireman touched them, they disintegrated!
My Husbands story; his dad Leonard was a night worker and was in bed when he heard a child shout "It's coming down, the noise has stopped". He dived under his bed just as all the front wall of the house caved in all over his bed. It was a doodlebug and that child had saved Brian's dad. It was 1943.
