I was still at school when the war began. I remember we had to share our school with evacuees from London for about three years. I joined a group that helped take evacuees to their new homes.

I remember queuing up for cakes, meats and vegetables. We ate:
1 egg a week
2ounces of butter a week
4 ounces of sweets a month
