This story was submitted to the People鈥檚 War site by Mairi Campbell of the 大象传媒 on behalf of Susan Cuich of the Glasgow Old Peoples Welfare Association and has been added to the site with his permission. The author fully understands the sites terms and conditions.

I was born on the 10th August 1940, so by VE day I was only four years and nine months old. I lived at Raithlin Street in Govan, what I do remember about that evening was the big bonfire they had in the street, lots of laughing and singing.
