My name is George Ernest Evans.
I was a Park Hall battery runner for the ack ack and search light girls. I was on the guns. I was 13 then, that was in 1943. My job was to carry the messenges, like a telegraph boy, in the camp. I did that until I went into the regular army, as a National Serviceman, when I went out to where Jesus was, as a UN soldier then, as a peacekeeper but that was after the war. I went to all the places that Jesus had been. It was very interesting.
For the war itself though, I was at Park Hall, in Shropshire. That鈥檚 where I went when I left school at 13. I don鈥檛 remember a big lot more than that. They were bombing around the area, you see, so I had to send a lot of cables. Mr Gasgoine, at Park Hall, he was the Post Master. (That was an important job for a 13 year old boy?) It was.
