We had an Anderson in the back yard but it was always damp, the public shelter was about 500 yrds. from home and was the smelliest, most crowded and noisy place that my mum said "no more ,if Hitler hits the house, so be it", from then on we just got ready for bed and went under the stairs, warm cosy and quiet, the buzz bomb near Parkgate & Sandringham rds. nearly got us, but only got the windows and curtains, God bless those who were not so lucky.any little kid memories similar, Pete Simpson, Baltimore ,Maryland, USA.
