I was ten and a half on 14th. November 1940 and living in Coventry. I'd just started at bablake school having passed the scholarship exam. and this was, of course, the night of the first of the city's three blitzes. Within about three weeks arrangements had been made for the whole school to be evacuated to Lincoln where a disused school was available. Truth to tell, from my personal experience, safety was in even shorter supply there than in Coventry! The school remained in Lincoln for two and a half years. I remain grateful to the people of Lincoln for putting up with us for that time and the excellent teaching which took place under such difficult conditions
