the memory that sticks in my mind as a young boy growing up ln my home town of lancaster during ww2 was when the telegraph boy on his bicycle came to our street we the children who were playing would stop and watch which house he would deliver the telegram to and sigh with relief when he passed any of our houses knowing that telegrams invariably brought bad news as most of our fathers were fighting in the war
