My grandfather was a engineer and squadron leader in the RAF when the war began. He died a long time ago so this story is based on facts from my grandma
He knew all the names of the men in this squadron and could play any wind instrument especially 'Paper and Comb' and tin whistle.

He repaired planes in the war, and when Paris had been liberated he was among the group of British who went in.

As the germans were driven back he followed into Belgium. I do not know what he did in belgium or france after the liberation but I know in Germany he went into intelliegence questioning german who were captured or something like that.

Message 1 - My Grandfather

Posted on: 18 November 2004 by Audrey Lewis - WW2 Site Helper

Dear Superbib,
Thank you for letting me read the story about your grandfather. What he did was not easy. It would be good if you could be in touch with other people on this site researching into family activities during WW2. Have a look at the catagories listed. You'll find other stories on your subject. I am sure your grandmother could give you a lot of help or perhaps another member of her family may remember those days. Please continue with the rest of your story - you'll get some surprises.
I remember the - 'paper and comb'music. What fun we had making the funny noises.
Hope this helps.
Kind regards,
Audrey Lewis
