Lance Corporal David F. Meek served with the Highland Light Infantry in the liberation of Europe. He was then posted to the Middle East from where he was given compassionate leave when his mother died. The Bainsford born was then posted to 64 German POW working camp at Castlerankine, Denny in his home area.
One of the German prisoners made a wooden box with a key and two picture frames in the shape of hearts with shamrocks and horseshoe motifs engraved on them.
Falkirk Council has recorded that an official was given a box by a POW for his wife.
