I was only 7 years old when war broke out and what I can remember the most was the home guard and the Americans.
We had a camp near to us and they took us out in one of their three ton lorries around the area, which was great fun.
At Christmas they threw a big party for all the children in the area, and put on entertainment as well.
When they had their supplies flown in it would always include chewing gum, which we couldn鈥檛 get so they would throw us a stick and we鈥檇 all scrabble to get it.
