I was captured in the place called Venray in Holland with me in this place was a Doctor who was called Duncan Hugh Mackenzie. This is the story as told by Arthur Abbott this is how it goes. I was in a group of men who were in a jeep and I had a red cross arm band on my arm this was seen by the Germans who became very friendly towards me, they asked me how their prisoners were treated we treated them very well because they were sent to Farms where they worked and got treated with respect from the British. I was then given a cup of Coffee made with proper water and not river I enjoyed this as this was my first proper drink in ages. Then that ended it we were now Prisoners of War. We were then taken to the German Head Quarters where we stayed overnight. The following day I was then given a secret mission I was to go back to the British Side when we got there we heard a voice it was a British one "What are doing here there are Germans here" I know I have just left them and I was then taken to the British Head Quarters and I was then told them about the Exchange I then found out later that they could not do it because the Germans had advanced too much. As a reward for passing my Secret Mission I was then told that my War was over, but what ever happened to the Doctor he remained as a Prisoer of War, some years later he had died in tragic circumstances. When I did my bit I returned back to England where O served at a place called Rothbury in Northumberland where I served as a Medical Sergeant of the Green Howards Regiment. This was the end of my War.
