I think I was 13 and at The Big Girls' School.

The circus had come to town and a marquee went up on the reci (Recreation Ground).

I was in the ticket queue with a firend.

Ahead of us was a yank buying tickets for about 10 kids, who were in a high state of excitement.

When we got in the circus tent there was a Yank at the front surrounded by the youngsters, he was now handing out gum.

We all shouted, laughed and stamped our feet at the clowns and all the acts.

When it was all over and we poured outside I saw him wave goodbye to the children he had treated to such fun.
