This large Group of Hilda's Unit was taken on one of Queen Mary's visits, sometime in 1944.
This story was submitted to the People鈥檚 War web site by a volunteer on behalf of Hilda Briars and has been added to the site with her permission. She fully understands the site鈥檚 terms and conditions.
Even Royalty were evacuated during the war. Queen Mary, the Queen Mother, was evacuated to Badminton. As she was near Hilda's unit, she made visits to he unit. These visits were preceeded by the usual tidying up and much spit and polish. Even so it was all good for morale.
