l lived just off the end of the runway at christchurch airfield which ran paraiiiel across the takeoff and landing area.ln 1943-1944 a saturday morning at 12 noon as l seem to remember .A Flying Fortress crashed just short of the runway, there was a large bang as it hit the ground,as being a nosey child at the time l climbed into the aircraft and started hunting around,there was alot of paper about maps etc.ln a seat strapped in was a chap l thought was dead.but then the yanks came into the aircraft,l said whats the matter with him he,s asleep says a yank.l then get a clip around the ear for being there l suppose. HEY take those kids home,yes sarge,me being with my brother,and giving
chewing gum which we thought was ever lasting toffee and in the end swallawing it. pt1
