Submitted by Alex Crawford on behalf of Judy Kinerman:

I was six when the war finished. My father was in the army and he was here in Trafalgar Square with me on VE Day. I was in Conningsby, near Grimby, Lincolshire. The bomber pilot, Douglas Badar and all of his crew, were just down the road from where I was living in Lincolshire.

I can remember the ration book and rationing. I can also remember swinging on my garden gate in the front garden, watching the lorries of the soldiers go by, and they threw me chocolate. They were American. I only wish I'd been a bit older!

My uncles were in the Grimsby docks and all the ships went to Dunkirk to bring the soldiers back. Well, two of my uncles did that. Now, it's a ghost town. There's not a lot of people there now, or businesses. But they did their bit.
