When the air raid siren sounded, we were to go down to the Anderson Shelter. Many times, we were only in there for a short while, although every so often, we would be down there for hours. In this instance, we would get hungry. We therefore had a 'goodie stash;' we had things such as horlicks and ovaltine tablets kept in a tin biscuit box to eat if we ever got hungry, but they were only for emegencies!
