Margret was a air warden who also worked at Vickers on a machine which made parts for submarines during the war.
In 1938 she witnessed the silver Zeppelin sent by the Germans to take photographs of the Barrow shipyard so they would know where it is so they could find it again and bomb it.
In 1943 Margaret got married on November 20th at the Presbyterian church. Because food was rationed her wedding cake was made out of dried eggs and to make it look like a real wedding cake the Inglewood Cafe (on Duke street) made a three-tiered cardboard wedding cake and put the sponge cake inside the cardboard cake.
One night, Margaret was on duty in Schnieder Square with her friend they heard a plane and saw a land mine coming down. Margaret's friend shouted to her to lie down on the floor. Whilst they were on the ground there was a terrifying bang which shook the floor.
