Collected at the Help the Aged coffee room in Cambridge by Philippa Geering.

Before I joined up, I was still living at my parent's house. My father was a Rector at the time. It was a big house with a lot of land. The land beyond the garden sloped down to the river which was called the Little Dart. We had seven evacuees, the youngest of whom were twins of five and we were playing in the garden when Patsy, one of the five year old twins, said "Oh, look at the funny plane with black crosses on it." Luckily it didn't see us because he was concentrating on the river probably trying to find Southern Command which was on the river Dart. My father had been a soldier, and that was what he guessed.
