Army troop convoys would often come passed our house on the way to the barracks. As they passed people would offer them mugs of tea and the lorries would stop. The military police would always try to move them on quickly. On one occasion we were giving a mug of tea to a driver in my George VI coronation mug, just as he got it the MPs moved him on and he had to take my mug with him. I always wonder where that mug ended up.
