In 1939 I started work and in 1942 I got a job in an Accident Hospital it was a lovely place to work. A little lady used to come and tell us some stories — we used to laugh. We used to sometimes stay over and have a good meal. I worked all the way through the War. I left after the War finished. I went on to work in the office, part time just doing office work. War broke out when I was living at home. I finished work at 62.
I started working at night because of all the injuries.
I was never spoilt, and the people I worked with were a good bunch we used to enjoy getting the wages — pulling the money in. I preferred to work with figures not get a manual job. I used to use an agency that was near the Aston Villa ground it was run by a big wig.
