Name Jean Furlong (nee Pryer)
Locality Bebington
I remember being woken up when sirens went and put into my beige siren suit with fur round the hood. Then taken down to the Anderson shelter. I remember mum listening and saying ‘That’s one of us ours or ‘That’s one of theirs. There were 3 houses bombed in front where I lived. We had windows blown in. My dad worked in Hooton and used his bike -but no lights of course. He worked in the Aircraft Factory not in the forces because of deafness. My uncle was blown up in one of the tankers. The ARP used to knock to see if we were alright or if a light was showing. I was at Town Lane school - we had gas masks and went to shelters where we sang songs. I remember things like American servicemen — ‘got any gum-chum’ & looking for mines.
