Arthur Duplock
In 1941 I was 16. I joined the Home Guard and served with them throughout the war because I was registered unfit for the army. One Sunday my friend and I spent all day strolling around looking for ladies. By the evening we decided to go home on the trolley bus. We waited such a long time that we decided to move round the corner by Putney bridge where we had the option of catching a bus as well. No sooner had we done this there was a tremendous bang; a bomb had landed right on a dance hall with a tailors shop below. We ran back to see what we could do to help but we didn鈥檛 know which were tailors dummies and which were bodies lying around until we touched one and it moaned.
I will never forget that experience.
