This story was submitted to the people's War site by a volunteer from Fivemiletown primary School on behalf of Mr William Chambers and has been added to the site with his permission.
I remember during the war, my mum queued up for rations with her ration book. She was allowed just enough for us to have one meal a day. My dad was in the Royal navy and I missed him when I was growing up. My sisters were sent away to the country farms for safety in came any bombs fell in Belfast. I had to stay and try and help my mum because my dad was away at sea.
I remember the blitz on Belfast and saw complete rows of houses blown up and saw the sweet shop reduced to rubble. I also saw unexploded bombs being diffused. I was young then but I remember it being a scary time for me as a child.
