I'd learnt to be a carpenter and had been putting camouflage rooves on shelters in New Romney.
I then went to London working on bomb damage at Belvedere, Erith. When we came back we'd catch the trolley. If there was an air raid I'd walk. One night we had an air raid and we got bombed out where I was lodging in Belvedere. They dropped six land mines in the area. I think it was in Pickety Street.
I wasn't that pleased but I was alright!
