We went into Antwerp 鈥 one of the first cargo ships into Antwerp 鈥 supplies for the army. German rockets shooting at us. Ours was one of 6 ships in the convoy. One got sunk.

Originally my ship was headed to Russia but due to an accident in the engine room we couldn鈥檛 make it and were sent to Antwerp instead. Then I came back and was sent to New York, Halifax in Canada.

We left New York in a convoy during the worst storm of the century. The convoy split up. We arrived in Gibraltar two weeks after the convoy took off and we were written off as 鈥渟unk鈥. We lost all the live boats 鈥 split in the ships deck. We went to Oran (Tunisia) North Africa 鈥 up to Marseille, France.
