Bill Smith and Annie Walkers wedding, 1942.
Bill Smith and Annie Walker were married in Blackwell chapel and had their reception at home in Newton, approx 1942. The house is sandbagged possibly because it was under the flight path of enemy planes on the way too and from Sheffield. Bill is in uniform and wa on guard duty during the war at various sites including some docks. The rest of the local family is around them. Dresses and the cake would have needed coupons saving by the family. The marquee hired cost 拢2 including delivery from Yeomans of Chesterfield.
