Happy Day December ’42 (Wedding Photo), Life in India, Boys Together

My mum and her sister used to come into Peterborough from Eye to go the dances at the Angel Hotel. My mum and her sister were asked to dance by a couple of men. One of them ended marrying my mum!!! I always remember my mum saying that she couldn’t understand my father when he spoke because was a Geordie. So she asked him if he was Welsh!! He was most annoyed because he was broad Geordie!!! This was the start of a romance and they married 5 years later.

My mum used to cycle from Eye to Peterborough everyday for work. She used to work at the Crawthorne Rd Laundry; and Dad used to cycle from Wyton to Eye to see my Mum. One night dad was cycling along and was so tired, he got off the bike, threw it into a hedge and went to sleep by the side of the road. A lorry driver saw him and thought he was dead … found out he wasn’t and gave him a lift back to base!!!

My parents were married for 58 years, until dad passed away in August, 2001.

My mum is Vera Coulson of Loxley, Peterborough.
